Project outcome #1

Long-term unemployment is often discussed mainly in economic terms, while its emotional and psychological dimensions receive less attention. The EU-MINDS research set out to explore these less visible aspects by focusing on everyday experiences, emotional challenges, and support needs related to unemployment.

The research involved unemployed adults, employment guidance professionals, and mental health experts from Greece, Hungary, Portugal, and Spain. Using questionnaires and interviews, it gathered insights from both personal and professional perspectives on how unemployment is experienced and addressed in practice.

Rather than focusing only on data and indicators, the research gives space to lived experiences. It highlights common challenges, unmet needs, and gaps in existing support systems, pointing to the importance of accessible mental health support alongside employment services.

The full research report is available here for those who would like to explore the findings in more detail.
