The EU-MINDS Research Report highlights the emotional and psychological effects of long-term unemployment and identifies opportunities for better support.

The EU Resilient Minds project has reached an important milestone with the publication of the EU-MINDS Research Report.

The research explored the psychological and emotional impact of long-term unemployment in Hungary, Spain, Portugal, and Greece. Through questionnaires and interviews with unemployed adults, employment advisors, social workers, and mental health professionals, the project examined the challenges faced by people experiencing prolonged unemployment and identified opportunities for better support.

The findings highlight that long-term unemployment affects much more than financial stability. Many participants reported anxiety, low mood, reduced self-confidence, social isolation, and difficulties maintaining motivation during extended job searches. The research also identified gaps in existing employment and mental health support systems, including limited access to psychological services and a lack of practical tools for professionals working with unemployed adults.

Based on these findings, the report provides recommendations for improving support services, including resilience-building activities, peer support approaches, motivational techniques, and stronger cooperation between employment and mental health services.

The research results will directly inform the next stages of the project, including the development of the EU Resilient Minds Intervention Guide and the digital learning platform designed to support both professionals and unemployed adults.
